August 31st, 2025 - VMU #1 by CMA THE DOPE MAN You are currently on: PAGE 1 Page 1 | Page 2 | Page 3 | Page 4 | Page 5 Welcome to the FoundYourVMU.com! Here is a VMU that I found in Spring 2025 at a GameExchange store in Louisville, Kentucky. This one is a Performance Mega Memory Card which is a 4x VMU, meaning it has four selectable banks (200 blocks per bank, meaning 800 blocks total) so it's effectively four VMUs in one. These non-OEM 4x VMUs are a bit janky and you have to be careful when switching backs while plugged in as these 3rd party 4x VMUs have a reputation for corrupting themselves. I typically pull the entire VMU out, move the bank switch, then plug the VMU back into the controller. For those who haven't seen one of these 3rd party 4x VMUs before, there is a micro-switch on the back of the VMU which allows you to select one of the four memory banks. The system I will be using this VMU on is my normal test system. This is a Sega Dreamcast Sports Edition (VA1) that I ended up doing some trace repair on a while back and brought back from the dead. This console has a GDEMU v5.20 installed with a 256GB Samsung EVO MicroSD card, a DreamPSU with external 12v power adapter, and a Broadband Adapter which I use for copying files back and forth between my PC. Since we're messing with a 4x VMU, I'm going to go through each bank at a time. So, let's do this thang!
-------- EXPLORING BANK 1 --------
Alright so first thing right out the gate we got a cool teddy bear VMU icon. I've seen this on a few other VMUs I've aquired over the years. Always good to see the infamous teddy bear. We got a decent selection of games here. On this bank we got: - Crazy Taxi 2 - Heavy Metal Geomatrix - Ultimate Fighting Championship - Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare - Spec Ops 2: Omega Squad - Shadowman Full screenshots of the date timestamps are below. It seems the latest save on this bank is for Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare from March 8th, 2002 at 4:15AM. The Crazy Taxi 2 and Heavy Metal Geomatrix saves show they are from 1998, this is a common thing that shows up on VMU saves since the Dreamcast clock battery dies so quickly and most people don't bother setting the correct time afterwards. See ya on the next page.
