Something I am doing now when exploring unknown VMUs is making a full backup (this includes a full raw VMU dump, as well as saving each save file individually), and then once the VMU is fully dumped I restore the full dump over to what I like to call my "COPY VMU".

The "COPY VMU" is essentially a throw-away VMU that I can wipe & reload VMU dumps to/from when needed. I use this VMU for test driving the saves to see what's on them, that way the original copies do not get accidentally altered, deleted, etc. This is important because some games will auto-save to the VMU without your permission, even when all you've done is just boot up to the game's main menu! In the future I do plan on doing a write up of how I back up VMUs and what software/hardware I use to accomplish this.

Not much to see here on the first Crazy Taxi. There are no high scores or challenges completed.

Previous owner probably booted this one up, said nope and turned it off. Next.

Dang, they wore the shit out of Crazy Taxi 2! Look at all these scores! They even completed all the Crazy Pyramid challenges. I'll post all the high scores below. DreamPi homies may wanna give this a minute to load.

NEXT!

Whoa, is that really 94 hours and 6 seconds on Grandia 2? I had to look up the level names (I'm not familiar with Grandia) but it looks like they pretty much beat the game. Two of their three characters are maxed out as well.

On Shenmue, it looks like we have three saves, one for each disc. They actually beat this one too! I wonder if they ever found any sailors.

So for Sega Swirl, I had to do some playing around with this one because I wasn't sure if they were playing this from a Web Browser 2.0 disc or if they were playing a standalone copy (I seem to recall a sampler disc having Sega Swirl on it). I also don't even know if it matters which one they were playing it from (could potentially be differences in how the files are saved). But nah, turns out they were playing it off of the Sega Smash Pack Volume 1 compilation.

I don't think they were a fan of this game. They only have one score and it's not even a good one lol. On UNTIMED of all modes! Get good FRB, wherever you are. Unrelated, but, I've always wanted to test out the play by e-mail functionality of Sega Swirl. We should host a Sega Swirl email chain tournament.

For Virtua Cop 2 this one confused me at first because I literally have this for the Sega Saturn, and didn't seem to recall this coming out for the Dreamcast. Well turns out I was over complicating this as, just like Sega Swirl, it's also on the Sega Smash Pack Volume 1 disc. I should note that this version actually has both Virtua Cop 1 and 2 bundled, so there's two sets of scores.

It doesn't look like they have any high scores saved, the ones pictured appear to be the defaults. Guessing they didn't have a light gun and didn't wanna use the d-pad as the cursor. Can't blame 'em.

See ya on the next page.
